Build your Toughness. Talent, memory, nerves, and attention are also important. But if you acknowledge which are your personal weaknesses, you can diminish them. If your attention is a problem, play the move in your head first as if you had played it on the board, wait a few seconds and play it later for good. Under intense pressure, avoid a time crisis or don’t be interested in looking into your opponent’s eyes.

Learn the categories and ratings -The requirements for becoming a Grandmaster are somewhat complex in today’s rules and regulations according to FIDE(World Chess Federation) A player must have attained an Elo rating of at least 2500 max and from the beginner’s stage of  < 1300 rating (or no rating, no tournament yet).

  • Amateur = 1300-1699
  • Club player = 1700-2000
  • First category = 2001-2199
  • Candidate master = 2200-2299
  • FIDE master = 2300-2399
  • International Master = 2400 – 2499
  • Grand Master = 2500-2599
  • Top Grand Master = above 2600 rating

Set a target

After the thorough study, plan and set a strategy to achieve your goals. Usually you require patience and intense games within a period of ten years. In addition, at least two favorable results (called norms) from a total of at least 27 games in tournaments involving other Grandmasters, including some from countries other than the applicant’s, are usually required before FIDE will confer the title on a player. There are other milestones a player can achieve to get the title, such as winning the Women’s World Championship, the World Junior Championship, or the World Senior Championship.

Yoga or meditation along with a long break and do wonders to unwind in a secluded place or indulge in hard partying so as to rid of lethargy.  Celebrate your successes with others .Recollect your thoughts in an imaginary position. Keep chess at bays length for a while. Rest assured you return fresh with new ideas.
