These chessboards are handmade. The playing squares and border are solid wood and are attached to a core of solid material with a method that is designed to prevent checking or warping from wood movement due to changes in temperature and humidity. The playing squares are approximately 13mm thick. The boards are finished in a durable varnish with a nice semi-gloss shine. The bottom of the boards are covered in green felt. A one year manufacturers warranty is included. NOTE: Wood color and figure content may vary slightly from board to board since each piece of wood is unique.

Light Squares and accents: Birdseye Maple - a North American hardwood highly prizes for it figure which comes in the form of "eyes" that are around 3 to 4 mm across. The eyes permeate the entire tree and are not a defect of any kind. They go from the center of the tree out to the bark like a rod.
Dark Squares: Padouk - a high density hardwood.
